    Workshops & Online Training

Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Centers (SBTDCs)

Providing ongoing training is one of the many services Michigan SBTDCs provide for growing and starting businesses.  Professionals or current small business owners with pertinent expertise teach these trainings.  A description of the sessions offered, dates, locations, and fees (if any) are listed on the state SBTDC website.  Go to "Calendar" under "Training Events".

Of particular interest to startup businesses may be the "Business Basics" workshop.  The Region 4, Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center located on both campuses of Mid Michigan Community College offers a monthly "Business Basics" workshop.  This workshop is offered on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, from 6.00pm-8.00pm, and rotates between Mt Pleasant and Harrison.

Business Basics:

  • Steps to take in order to be a successful startup business

  • Things to consider when choosing your legal entity type (LLC, Sole Proprietor, S-corp, etc)

  • Determining what licenses and permits your business may need

  • Funding source options for getting your business up and running

  • Legal, insurance, employee and organization issues to avoid

  •  Identify of internal/external resources and service providers necessary for success

If you are in the early stage of startup or considering starting your own business, you should seriously consider attending this workshop.  Instruction is provided by a Certified Small Business Consultant.  Attendees will also be provided a hard copy of our "How To Start your Business Guide" that includes a startup checklist and other valuable tools for your Michigan business.
